Fishing is good all year around and anglers will find catfish, native bass, bream and panfish. From November 1 through March 31, Blue River is a designated trout stream. Each year, the Blue River Association sponsors two trout derbies. Anglers from across the country attend these derbies to fish and compete for cash prizes, awards, and trophies. The first derby is held in November on Veteran's Day Weekend, with the second derby in February on President's Day Weekend. Anglers can always look forward to some great trout fishing and a great time, and there is always lots of prizes for the young anglers. Make plans now to attend both derbies. WARM WATER FISHING
Although Blue is best known for it's trout fishing in the fall and winter, there is the opportunity for wonderful warm water fishing during the spring and summer.
Imagine battling a scrapy Smallmouth in a river current and some of these Smallmouth will weigh four pounds or more. Besides the Smallmouth, there are Spotted Bass, Largemouth, Crappie, Catfish, and a varied community of panfish including the Long Ear, Redbreast, Red Ear, and Green. All of the panfish have a tremendous vigor and fight to them. The catfish at Blue are rather famous since they prove with their numbers and size.
Spring is the most exciting time for searching the bass population with the pre-spawn having the species in high gear.
Don't miss out on the warm water fishing adventure at Blue River.
What's New!
March 17th, 2009. The burn ban has been lifted but please be very careful with campfires.
The Missouri Trout have been stocked in the river and they are nice sized Rainbows!
Poaching is both unethical and a violation of wildlife rules and certainly takes away from the overall enjoyment of the outdoor experience. Report any violations to Operation Game Thief by putting their phone number 1-800-522-8039 in your cell phone.
